President’s Corner – Fall 2013

By D. Jeff Gomon

Welcome to all new members and thanks to those who have renewed their memberships. I know the board and officershave been working hard to keep the calendar full of events of all kinds to ensure your experience with the club is a good one.

Looking at the diverse events slated for this fall, and the remainder of the year, it is testament to this commitment. Hopefully many of you will join us. I want to start by thanking our sponsors and advertisers. As they support our chapter, chapter events and offer discounts, please return the favor and support them when the need arises. The Kearney Cruise Nite was once again a great success. Many members enjoyed somewhat cooler weather this year including several new faces. Along with viewing over 1,000 different vehicles, we enjoyed an excellent lunch at Thunderhead Brewery. The evening cookout at Kearney Tire and Auto with our friends from the Archway Corvette club was again a perfect way to round out the day. I want to thank Chet and Lori Dawes and Mr. & Mrs. Marvin Dawes for once again putting this event together and making sure everything went smoothly.
We had a great turnout at the All European Night at the Lincoln Sonic Drive Inn. Many members that came showed up from all over the state. The winners of the furthest traveled are Laroy Williams who drove his convertible M6 from Kearney and Jim Peterson who brought his Mini from Minden. It was good seeing a group from Omaha making the drive down to hang out for the evening.

We have a new addition to the board, Jon Ross. He will be in charge of Social Media such as our Facebook Page and Twitter. Jon will also be working together with Tarun Kundhi on our chapter website. As always, we appreciate those members who step up and volunteer. With elections coming up, please look and see if you are interested in any of the positions. If you don’t want to run for a board position, but would like to help plan an event, please let us know.

And now, some great news concerning Oktoberfest 2014. A recent email from National shows the 45th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest will be held in Beaver Creek, Colorado from June 16-20. For those who have never attended an O’fest, this is the BMW club’s largest national event that brings members from every state and hosts a wide variety of events. There will be much coverage and planning for this event upcoming. I would expect this to be well attended by our chapter so put this on your calendar. Visit www.bmwccaofest.org for additional details.
