I want to start out by welcoming all the new members and thanking all those who have renewed their memberships. I think you will find this upcoming year full of great events that will appeal to a wide variety of members. Have a look at the calendar of events and come join us.
That said, one of the biggest baddest events we co-host, the Flat Out Classic, will be back for year three!! Held in Topeka, Kansas at Heartland Park, this event has everything, Driving School, Autocross School, Autocross Race and a Car Show. If you want to show up and hang out with members and see what’s going on, there is no fee. On Friday, Saturday or Sunday you can drive your car on track over the lunch break for 30-40 min. Saturday evening after the on site bar-b-que, we have access to the drag strip and will be offering people the opportunity to drive single car passes. For a small fee, you can run numerous times over the two hours it will be open to us. The car show is also free to enter and will feature vehicles from the local area as well as the all over the region. More on this event can be found here in this issue or on the website. This event is not to be missed.
For those of you not aware, the 2014 National BMW CCA Oktoberfest will be held June 16-20 in Beaver Creek Colorado. There will be a sizable group of GPC members attending and perhaps forming a caravan for the trip out West. If you’re not familiar with O’Fest, the events, etc. please visit the national website (www.bmwcca.org) and follow the link. Look for more local planning efforts in upcoming e-blasts or on our Facebook page and twitter.
I would like to congratulate David Gannon for winning the election and retaining his position as VP for another two years. Special thanks to Lynn Kost-Virant for her numerous years of service as Treasurer. Congratulations to Jason Brewer for accepting the nomination as Treasurer, I look forward to working with him. Serving with Dave and Lynn these past years has been an honor and privilege. I would like to thank all our advertisers and also encourage you to support them and the services they provide. Without them, many of the events we hold would not be possible. Please have a look at the chapter website as our own Jon Ross has given it a nice update, coat of wax and tire shine for 2014. There lots of new features that will make navigating and communication easier and much more clear. Further, please like our Facebook page and make a post. We also have a twitter account so the chapter is certainly getting firmly planted in the social media arena.
I will keep this short and close with an invitation to come out to an upcoming event and a challenge to find just one person who isn’t a member and get them signed up.
Have a great Spring !!!
D. Jeff Gomon
